I wouldn’t say I’ve always loved the violin. I say this because in school, when I was fourteen, I actually was learning the flute for a few weeks. I didn’t think to learn the violin.

But I do know I was young when I heard the violin and fell in love with it. It’s my favourite instrument!

What I love about it is that it brings up so many emotions within me, especially when it sounds like crying.

I bought my first violin in 2008, an electric violin, because I asked if I could get a silent violin. My stupid self thought it would be so quiet I wouldn’t disturb my flatmates, but nooo.

I sold it a few years later and would buy a traditional violin (one I still have!).

My first violin lessons were in 2011 for a few weeks. I would start going to Bird College in September 2014 for two terms and again in 2016 for two terms. It would be a while until I started online private lessons with two different teachers for a few weeks each at different time periods. Then, in 2024, I started in-person private lessons for a few weeks (every two weeks due to the price). We stopped as she moved.

Finally, in November 2025, I found my “forever” teacher! He’s so great! I’ve seen my greatest progress with him, and I say “forever” teacher because I plan to stick with him for as long as he is teaching.

Follow my progress!
