Do you remember I told you that I found a company called M-Intensive that offers training in the Horton technique (and Graham, but more on this later). I actually signed up this Monday that just passed! I get a one-hour live class per week (I thought it was during term times only, but turns out they only take a break in August). I planned on joining this coming September, but I actually signed up this June as I spoke with admin and she mentioned that they don’t break for summer, just in August. One month off isn’t bad, I mean, I still have two full months of training right!?

I also mentioned that I plan to take online Saturday classes with Danceworks. I had my first-ever Horton Technique class at the end of April, a couple of months ago. It was amazing! I was supposed to resume last week, but I thought I’d rather have the ballet class that happens 1.5 hours afterwards, and I had no energy for both. Turns out ballet would be cancelled! Arrgh! But not to fret, I actually had my second class today. Just as I started ballet (and others) on the 5th November, I’m “starting” Horton Technique on the 6th June. Six months from now will be January 2027. I hope to have accumulated many hours by then (around 75 hours according to my Excel spreadsheet). Not bad at all!

Speaking of having my second class today, did I fail to mention that I only lasted 30 minutes? Whoops! I know, I know, it’s not good at all, but it is better than nothing. Danceworks lists two teachers for the class, but only one teaches at a time. I had one teacher the first week, and the other teacher today. I actually preferred the first teacher’s class. Though today was good, don’t get me wrong. I watched the rest of the class (kinda, I was also watching YouTube videos). There was a lot of work on the floor. I wasn’t a fan of this, but hey, I wasn’t doing it! I think if my flexibility were better, it would be fine, but I’m just so stiff at the moment (which is why I decided to get back to the guy on Fiverr and start doing private yoga classes starting next Monday.

Another thing I wanted to say in this post. I think I actually don’t mind Cunningham and Graham techniques! I had a look at some classes, and they’re not bad at all. I think it was the Release-based technique that put me off contemporary dance. So M-Intensive actually offer both Graham and Horton techniques. I’m not sure how they’re shared on the live classes. Maybe they alternate. But I actually don’t mind now. Regarding Cunningham technique, I read today on the Danceworks website that the teacher offers this technique in his two contemporary dance classes during the week. I’m hoping to take my first class tomorrow, but I don’t know as Sunday is supposed to be my rest day. There is also a yoga class at 9:45 as usual, but that’s just too early for me; I’m not in the right state of mind at that time (though I’ll admit, I have taken this class before, maybe twice).

I’ll post tomorrow if I do the contemporary class.
