So! About Rambert Grades!
They go from initial grades (which are for small children) and then grade 1 to grade 8. I like that there’s progression to it.
Funnily enough, speaking of Rambert, I was considering doing a BA (Hons) in Ballet and Contemporary Dance with Rambert School. But this wouldn’t be until I’m at least 45 years old. It’s competitive, and I don’t really like the idea of taking the spot away from a young dancer who could really use it for their professional career, because, let’s face it, I won’t be having a professional career following the degree at that age!
I’m going to do as the school director said and register for a trial class of adult contemporary on Saturday, and speak to the teacher of Rambert Grades. I really wanted to avoid leaving the house and travelling far twice a week, but I may have no choice.

The school director told me they won’t be continuing with adult contemporary as there was limited interest. But she said I could join the children’s Rambert Grades. So I signed up for a trial that happened yesterday.
First of all, there was a substitute teacher. That’s ok, but I didn’t get the full experience of the class as she didn’t know the syllabus and asked a student to demonstrate the steps to me before we did them together. There were three of us students, but one had a broken foot, I believe (well, according to her foot brace or whatever it’s called). She told me I pick up steps quickly, which was nice.
At the end, she told us to improvise. It was so embarrassing. I was just flailing my arms in the air and moving around the room. At one point, I crossed the area where the other student was working (nowhere near her but just using the space). By the time it came to present what we had improvised, the teacher said to use half the room each. She asked if we had improvised something together. I didn’t know that’s what was required. I feel like I just did it all wrong! I’ve been thinking about it a lot. I’m such an overthinker!
I do like the idea of the class. Not a huge fan of the syllabus. Oh yeah, it was advertised as grade 3-4, but during the class, the substitute teacher asked the students what grade they were, and one said grade 2. Huh?
Anyway, I’ll be thinking about it over the next few days, and I’ll let you know whether I decide to continue with Rambert Grades.
